Parker's Pets Opens This Weekend: Hyde Park's Newest Boutique Not Your Grandma's Pet Store

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 27, 2007-- Hyde Park?s only pet store (www.parkerspets.com) boutique, Parker?s Pets, is set for a gala grand opening celebration this weekend. On Saturday, September 29 from 10 am to 6pm, young entrepreneur Katherine Pottenger will finally see her vision become reality...a boutique and bakery dedicated to all the best gifts, toys, apparel and cat and dog food. Parker's Pets grand opening will include a host of special events and all will benefit Smaller Paws Rescue.

Both a lifelong animal lover and a Hyde Park native, Katherine found a pet store boutique was an easy fit in her home community. ?I used to drive up to the North side to get pet supplies, and I know a lot of other people were, too. It seemed silly to not have a pet store closer,? Katherine said.

But Parker's Pets is no ordinary pet store (www.parkerspets.com). It's a celebration of the bond between people and their animals. Inside Parker's Pets will be a carefully selected array of only the finest, most fun pet products.

A cornerstone of the store is the cat and dog food (www.parkerspets.com) section. Filled only with the highest quality, all natural foods, the pet food section carries wet and dry food made for many different nutritional needs. That was important to Katherine because Parker, the 2 year old Pomeranian who is the store?s namesake, has special dietary concerns. ?Parker can?t eat wheat or starch, and needs a special dog food (www.parkerspets.com). It was important to me to have species appropriate cat and dog foods that are made out of the best ingredients, to provide the best results,? she said.

Parker?s Pets also features an extensive apparel section. According to Katherine, dressing a dog isn?t only for socialites like Paris Hilton and their small dogs. ?Our apparel section is not only for fashion, but for function. Chicago gets cold during the winter, and dogs of all sizes get cold outside, whether they?re outside for a walk or to play in the yard,? she said. To suit the size range of dogs that live in Hyde Park, Parker?s Pets carries dog apparel for dogs as small as a Chihuahua, all the way up to Great Dane size.

After months of planning, Parker?s Pets will open on September 29 at 10 am sharp. Festivities will include a professional artist drawing portraits of visiting pets and a raffle to benefit Smaller Paws rescue, an organization she holds close to her heart after they rescued her 3 year old Pomeranian, Jack, from a puppy mill. Upcoming events at the pet store boutique will include a Halloween Party, Yappy Hour and Pictures with Santa Claus, all to benefit various Chicagoland dog and cat rescues. Parker's Pets is scheduled to add a grooming parlor to their extensive collection of treats, toys, gifts, clothes and cat and dog food in December.

Feed the Birds
Elaborate and decorative or simple and functional, birdhouses and birdfeeders are lovingly coveted by many people (and birds)! The collector seeking a new piece for the den or study need only consider personal taste and aesthetics- many who enjoy the careful art and craftsmanship of a beautiful birdhouse or feeder would never think of placing their precious gift outside in the rain and other elements. The serious or novice birder, on the other hand, has just a bit more to consider.
