$2.7 Million Brings Pets 'Hope' for the New Year
SAN DIEGO (Vocus) January 11, 2007 -- PETCO and the PETCO Foundation wrapped up 2006 by raising over $2.7 million through their annual Tree of Hope fundraiser to benefit animal organizations nationwide.
Seventy percent of the funds donated by PETCO's customers, associates and vendors during the five-week campaign will immediately go to the more than 4,000 animal organizations PETCO partners with in the communities they share. The remaining thirty percent will be provided to animal welfare organizations in the areas where the money was raised during the balance of the year.
The Foundation believes part of its success in raising money is tied to the fact that donors know their contributions stay in their communities, and it is one of the few pet retail-related fundraising organizations that takes this type of grassroots approach to supporting animal welfare.
"There are thousands of animals across the country that will benefit from our store visitors' generosity. We're deeply grateful to be able to organize and distribute this collection effort each year on behalf of all of those animals who depend on us for their well-being," says PETCO Foundation Vice President and Director Paul Jolly.
